August, Family Day, and this year, this was a visit to Farfield Mill at Sedbergh. The outing was well attended and some of the members can be seen below being addressed by Lionel, prior to a welcome by the assistant manager of the mill, briefly telling us the history and what was to be seen.

This month's event was a demo by our own Roger Busfield...For this month, the hall was laid out differently, with our set-up at the opposite end, by the stage. Apart from initial problems with the video system lighting - modifications are in the process of being adapted - this arrangement seems very successful and is to be used in the future.

A departure from the usual routine this month. Our AGM, Easter and an opportunity to get a demonstration by David Springett all combined to end up with us asking the Judo Club - normally meeting on the Sunday - to let us use their booking and have our meeting on the fourth Sunday. The AGM was brought forward to 9am and completed in time for David's demo to commence at 10am. At the AGM, it was regretted that Briam Bromley had retired from the Committee due to ill health. Also that, due to other commitments, Jon Woddy had felt he should also retire. Volunteers were asked for to join the Committee but so far, no-one has come forward. The Committee's recommendation that Alf Garner should be elected life President was carried unanimously. On completion of business, the AGM was closed and guests from other clubs joined us for the demonstration by David. Click to go to some photos from it.

2006 started with a 'return' of Owen Jones. A return since the club attended a demonstration by him some years ago, in Black Beck Wood.
He told us a lot about the history and use of the baskets - swills - he makes and talked us through the production, from coppiced wood to finished swill, making one - with a little use of "one I prepared earlier" items.
A well attended and very well received demonstration.
